Cobra rescued from Ghost Net

Discarded fishing nets are commonly used as boundary fencing in many coastal communities, but this practice creates a deadly trap for wildlife—especially snakes. When snakes get entangled in these nets, they are often left to die or killed out of fear.

Animal Warriors Conservation Society works directly with coastal villages to eliminate the use of fishing nets as house fencing and to introduce safer, humane alternatives. Our team provides practical solutions that protect both people and wildlife, while also reducing the risk of snakes entering homes.

To create economic incentives for change, we help communities collect and send discarded fishing nets to certified recycling units, generating monetary opportunities for local families. This transforms ghost nets from a threat into a valuable resource.

Through our interventions, we have rescued countless snakes from life-threatening entanglements and prevented similar incidents across several coastal areas.

We also run extensive community education and awareness programs, teaching families how to coexist safely with snakes, use preventive measures, and keep homes wildlife-safe using humane, eco-friendly methods.
