Manja ,a nylon string used for flying kites is banned by India. Still many people fly kites using this dangerous thread. Many gets entangled around trees killing thousands of birds annually.
We received a distress call reporting a bird got entangled in manja in the middle of a lake. Upon receiving our team reached the lake and learnt that the bird is trapped on top of bamboo tree in the middle of the lake. To reach the tree we had to swim across the deep lake . Bamboo tree is very thick and spiny it took lot of cuts and scratches to scale the tree and able to reach the bird. Using soft techniques we could cut all the strings entangled the bird. Bird was unhurt and healthy with little support she flew BACK TO LIFE.
